On the 3rd and 4th May 2025, The North Devon Bonsai Society took part in the South West Bonsai Show at RHS Rosemoor.
The displays were judged by John Trott and Dave Cheshire, both accredited RHS judges, and I am pleased to say we got joint first, with Somerset Bonsai Club, out of 7 (I think) bonsai displays altogether. We won a small juniper which Roy will wire over the next few months then at some stage we will auction or raffle it to club members. We also received many positive comments about the trees from various well respected people in the bonsai world and I was particularly pleased to be complimented on the ‘innovative’ display tables.
In addition, we were treated to a demonstration of the styling of a pine tree by Roy on the Saturday, followed on Sunday by a yew styling by Jon, both of which were well received.
Thanks to all those who gave up their time to come along to support and assist. Over the weekend there were well over 2,000 people through the doors, 30% up on last time, so a great success all round. Well done Nigel Wright of FOBBS for organising the whole thing, a daunting task I would imagine.
