Report from Club Meeting 12th May 2025

Well, we almost ran out of table space yesterday with a good turnout of members plus 5 new faces, although one, Kevin, had been once before some time ago. So Amanda, Vic, Paul and Teresa, arrived off the back of the Bonsai South West Show at Rosemoor and we hope they were interested enough to continue to come along.
We discussed, and agreed on, the possibility of buying a printer to produce labels for show trees, having missed out on our display being the outright winner at Rosemoor due to a lack of information labels. We have always worried about labels being distracting on a display but apparently it is possible to print them white on black and quite small and so suit our needs. Kev Denney has since researched what is available and has come up with a small battery operated model which can be used on site after a display is set up, which would be very convenient. Following our discussion I have asked him to order it, we can easily afford it because of an unexpected legacy from Pauline Beal’s estate, and if the stars are lined up we can try it out at Exmouth.
Quite a variety of trees came along last night, including a lovely silver birch with a characterful white trunk that Nigel brought for advice. Matt had a very healthy looking juniper with good potential, Alan brought his mugo pine which he wired and pruned and Richard had a problem satsuki with too many trunks!
A busy and interesting meeting made even better courtesy of a slice of Berice’s delicious cake.
